5th District Assemblyman Appointed Vice-Chairman of New Assembly Committee; Will Serve on Other Key Committees
(CAMDEN)--Assemblyman Angel Fuentes (D-Camden) has been appointed by Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-Essex), Majority Leader Louis Greenwald (D-Camden), and the Assembly Democratic leadership team to serve on three critical Assembly committees, including the position of Vice-Chairman of the newly-created Assembly Women and Children Committee. Assemblyman Fuentes will also serve on the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee and the Assembly Human Services Committee.
"I am grateful and thankful that our leadership has shown the confidence in me to serve in these important roles," said Fuentes. "Each of these committees will handle issues that are important to the middle-class and working families of the 5th District in the new legislative session, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the challenging issues we will face."
A second-term Assemblyman and former Council President of the Camden City Council, Fuentes has been a key advocate for economic and educational opportunity for the families of the 5th district. In addition, Fuentes has sponsored legislation to make New Jersey's streets safer by keeping drug dealers and gangs from returning to the scene of a crime--which was signed into law in April 2011. As Vice-Chair of the newly created Women and Children committee, Fuentes will have a key role in promoting the priorities of New Jersey's middle-class and working families.
"Angel will bring a tireless passion and commitment in advocating for New Jersey's middle-class and working families," said Assembly Majority Leader Greenwald. "I know he will bring many ideas to the table in working to provide economic and educational opportunity to all our state's residents."
"With New Jersey's economy continuing to struggle in the midst of a national economic recession, the difficulties facing us are great," said Fuentes. "I look forward to continuing the fight to stand up for our middle-class and working families in this new session of the Legislature."
